Contact Lens Care - Cleaning and Disinfecting

When cleaning lenses always follow the instructions given by your eye care professionals. Some general guidelines should be followed for all lens types. Always wash your hands before removing or inserting the lens. Always use quality lens care products and try to clean lenses as often as possible to remove buildup. Always follow guideline in the instruction as to minimize soaking time before wearing lenses again. Always clean the lens case with solution and replace it every so often.

Safe contact lens wearing tips:
  • Different solutions cannot always be used together and not all solutions are safe for use with all lenses.
  • There are three essential steps in contact lens care: cleaning, rinsing and disinfecting
  • Cleaning solutions remove dirt, mucus and debris that get on the lens during wear
  • Disinfecting solutions kill bacteria and other germs on the lenses. Disinfection is necessary to help prevent serious eye infections.
  • Enzyme solutions remove protein and other deposits that accumulate on the lenses over time.
  • Rewetting solutions are used to we the lenses while you are waring them, to make them more comfortable.
  • Contact lens cases can be a source of bacteria and other micro-organism growth. Lens cases should be cleaned, rinsed and allowed to air dry each time the lenses are removed. Replace the lens case frequently.
  • If your eyes become read, irritated or painful, or if your vision worsens while wearing lenses, immediately remove the lenses and consult your eye care professional.
  • Disposable and frequent or planned replacement lenses should be thrown away after the recommended wearing period.
